Faranu wins Prestigious award at the 'Kunstweek'

On November 4th, 2011 during the annual ‘Kunstweek’ art election in Amsterdam, Dutch visual artist Faranú was one of the lucky winners. By a panel of about one hundred connoisseurs and 20,000 casted votes, she was appointed ‘Talent of the Year’. By this title she will be counted among the most esteemed Dutch artists under 35 years of age. Faranú is currently throwing high eyes with her distinctive charcoal drawings and after successful exhibitions in New York and The Netherlands, she also recently participated in Art Beijing, China. Faranú was not the only winner in the greatest art election in the Netherlands. Renowned artist Ted Noten became ‘Artist of the Year’ in which he defeated seven other famous artists, including Erwin Olaf, Marlene Dumas and Anton Corbijn. Marte Röling was named "brilliant artist of the year".

In result of Faranú's successful exhibition in New York City in 2010, she received an invitation to expose her work at the the renowned Art Beijing art fair in China the following year. Faranú developed three dimensional work and absorbed the Chinese surroundings. 'Faranú in Beijing' became an abstract video that leaves plenty of room for the observers own imagination.

The Art Beijing 2011 Contemporary Art Fair will be held from April 29-May 2, 2011, in the China National Agriculture Exhibition Center in Beijing. Now in its sixth year, Art Beijing is perfectly in step with the development of contemporary art and has established itself as the most competitive art fair in Asia.

The roots of Art Beijing 2011 are firmly in the soil of Asian culture and its contemporary art communities. Adressing key issues in contemporary art from both academic and market perspectives, the Art Beijing Contemporary Art Fair takes the pulse of the recent art market and reveals its future trends, concepts and opportunities. The 2011 “Art Unforbidden” thematic exhibition will be housed in a nearly 1,000 sq. meter space, where exhibition curators will exhibit cutting-edge contemporary, experimental and avant-garde art.

In 2011, the Art Beijing Contemporary Art Fair continues to play a key role in connecting and cultivating relationships between the worlds of art and business. In addition, it will engage foreign embassies and cultural centers, inviting them to actively participate in the art fair. In doing so, Art Beijing offers a platform for communication on art and culture between China and other nations. The VIP services at Art Beijing 2011 are also being further expanded to better serve Art Beijing’s clients and partners. The 2011 fair will do an even more professional job of facilitating communication between collectors and galleries.

With at 6:30 pm an audiovisual performance by the band Datapanik (feat. Fellow). We will serve Balashi Beer, Old Parr Whiskey and “Sopi di Mondongo”.

Moritz Ebinger’s second exhibition as Nieuwe Vide’s curator for the year 2011 focuses on Ateliers ’89, an institute for contemporary art and design on the island of Aruba. “Mas o menos Aruba y dibujos”, which literally translates as “more or less Aruba and drawing”, springs from Ebinger’s guest lectureship at Ateliers ’89 in 2010. Communally made drawings by his students form the heart of the exhibition. Many lecturers and former guest lecturers share in as well.

Ateliers ’89’s workshop and exhibition programme brings young Dutch-Caribbean artists into contact with current developments in the arts. In recent years this has led to many cultural exchanges: Dutch artists have contributed to the curriculum through residencies and talented Caribbean artists have been given the opportunity to further their studies at art academies in The Netherlands.

On 8 May, the last day of the exhibition, another BUZZ!! will take place, with lectures, tours and performances. Keep an eye on our website for the programme.

In the exhibition space you can also see the ongoing project “Zwaan Kleef Aan”. Throughout 2011 various artists will add to this ever-expanding wall drawing. So far Suzanne Drummen, Moritz Ebinger, Marissa Evers, het Harde Potlood, Femke van Heerikhuizen, Karla Hoeben, David K.C. Moir, Serge Onnen, Jacobien de Rooij and Annemarie van Sprang have contributed.

Her work is about Neo-Mythical art and Human Abstraction. She makes Charcoal Drawings and Sculptures. The Group Exhibition will feature works from several artists using different media containing; paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, and others.

Gallery Hoekkunst is a platform that shows the various aspects of Contemporary Art.

They present exhibitions of works by young visual artists and new talent.
